Position Overview/ Duties

  • Asess, diagnose, and treat patients with mental/psychiatric disorders using established psychometric assessment techniques and recognized diagnostic criteria.
  • Provide individual, family, and group counseling and psychotherapy using a variety of treatment modalities to assist beneficiaries with emotional and mentally disabling disorders.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary medical team to facilitate discharge planning, helping patients and families understand medical recommendations and utilize community resources for optimal social adjustment.
  • Direct and provide emergency mental health services and crisis intervention, serving as the primary subject matter expert and point of contact within the Medical Treatment Facility.
  • Coordinate with internal departments and external community agencies to facilitate safe referrals, including coordinating inpatient psychiatric hospitalizations when necessary.
  • Develop working relationships with military and community service organizations to build a network of assistance and disseminate information regarding Outreach Mental Health services.
  • Conduct ongoing mental health needs assessments to develop, evaluate, and modify existing clinical programs, treatment protocols, and group sessions.
  • Monitor clinical service patterns and collect outcome data to measure program effectiveness, ensuring adherence to professional standards and promoting efficient practices.
  • Maintain accurate patient health records, ensure compliance with quality improvement and safety standards, and actively participate in interdisciplinary planning and administrative meetings.

Basic Requirement for Social Worker (Clinical): Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. AND Licensure: This position requires a current, active, valid, and unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: conducting psychosocial assessments to formulate clinical diagnoses; providing individual or group psychotherapy to patients with complex mental health disorders; collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate crisis intervention services; AND participating in program evaluations to improve the quality of clinical services. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
